ASCA is monitoring the coronavirus/COVID-19 situation and is giving due consideration to our members’ safety and the impact on future events. Over the upcoming months, we will be following statements from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization, local and national government statements, the U.S. State Department, our hotel partners, and other trusted agencies providing information on the virus and related risks or safety guidelines. We will also be keeping abreast of how other professional associations conduct their live, in-person events.

ASCA & ASBCE Make Joint Statement
Concerning Chiropractors As Essential Healthcare Providers

The Alabama State Board of Chiropractic Examiners (ASBCE) and the Alabama State Chiropractic Association (ASCA) have worked together to research and review both the Governor's Supplemental State of Emergency and the State Health Officers Amended Statewide Social Distancing Order and now affirm that Chiropractors are essential healthcare providers and should remain ready to serve their communities both in daily care and in times of urgent need. Chiropractors care for patients of all ages and as an essential component to the healthcare delivery system can help keep non contaminated musculoskeletal patients out of high risk physician offices and emergency rooms. This will help these facilities to focus on caring for individuals affected by COVID-19 and decrease further stress and possible contamination from overcrowding.

Please click the following link to the FAQ on the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) website .

Below is the language specifically addressing chiropractors.  It is near the bottom of the page.

Q: Can physical therapists and chiropractors continue to provide therapy services to patients under the order?

A: Yes. Physical therapists and chiropractors are medical providers subject to the rule. But, like other providers of dental, medical, or surgical procedures, they may provide services that are necessary to treat an emergency medical condition, or are necessary for a patient to avoid serious harm from an underlying condition or disease, or are a necessary part of a patient’s ongoing and active treatment.

For updates please check the ASBCE website and your email instead of bombarding ADPH for questions re closures.  We will upsdate any closure changes as soon as they are available.  Please remember operators at ADPH may be confused by your questions which can lead directly to misinformation as well as overloading their phone lines.  If you must call please call the Board office at 800-949-5838.  For questions regarding any financial assistance that might be available please contact your financial advisor or reach out to the ASCA 334-262-2228.

Yours in health!
