2019 Convention Speakers

The ASCA is proud to welcome the following speakers for our 2019 Convention & Exposition.

 

David Barczyk - DC

Dr. David Barczyk has been practicing for over 20 years treating spinal injury cases. He has the distinction of being the only treating doctor in Louisiana that has been qualified to testify as an expert in motor vehicle crash biomechanics and is one of only a handful of doctors to do this nationwide. In addition to his undergraduate and doctorate degrees, Dr. Barczyk has over 250 hours of post doctorate training in biomechanics, occupant kinematics and vehicle dynamics. He also has 135 hours of post graduate study in functional neurology.

His knowledge bridges the gap between accident reconstruction, mechanism of injury, human tissue response and pain transmission. He has participated in full scale human volunteer crash testing on multiple occasions with the Spine Research Institute of San Diego (in conjunction with Texas A&M Engineering Department) and the Collision Safety Institute. He is also an Advanced Graduate in Whiplash and Brain Trauma from the Spine Research Institute of San Diego. Dr. Barczyk lectures regularly to physicians, attorneys and judges regarding biomechanics, occupant risk and mechanism of injury.

Dr. Barczyk's topic will be Winning the Whiplash Epidemic. 

Kevin Donka - DC

Dr. Kevin Donka graduated from the National College of Chiropractic in 1987 and he has maintained a large and unique family practice in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago since that time. In 1999 he testified before the U.S. Congress on the issue of national healthcare reform, and he has spoken at numerous seminars and chiropractic colleges throughout his career. He is an internationally recognized author and lecturer and has shared the stage with many of the chiropractic profession’s leaders. He is a regular contributor to the Journal of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association and has written columns in many of the world’s Chiropractic Universities’ newsletters. He also publishes his free weekly e-mail, Chirothots, which reaches thousands of chiropractors. He established The Donka Family Chiropractic Center for Wholeness in 1988 and retired from active practice in 2012 to expand his teaching and coaching opportunities. He is a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, an avid reader and plays 22 different musical instruments. He lives in the far Northwest suburbs of Chicago with his wife Cristine and their 5 children.

Dr. Donka will be speaking on two topics: Specific Physiologic Changes During the Healing Process and Ideal Patients and Your Expectations of People.

 

Kathy Mills Chang Founder & CEO KMCU

Since Chiropractic helped relieve her asthma symptoms, Kathy Mills Chang has made it her mission to ensure that DCs earn the respect and financial rewards that they deserve. For over 15 years, she managed multiple, high-volume chiropractic and multidisciplinary practices throughout the country. She has had the privilege of serving on the national level as the American Chiropractic Association's primary staff contact for coding, insurance, Medicare, and other practice management issues. Since 2007, her focus has been on Kathy Mills Chang, Inc and its training and implementation arm, KMC University. Through the KMCU online curriculum, training modules, seminars, and materials, the proven an effective Kathy Mills Chang reimbursement techniques are utilized in countless practices. She currently serves as consultant and adviser to industry giants like Foor Levelers, BioFreeze, TheraBand, ChiroTouch Software, and ChiroHealthUSA. She is a Certified Medical Compliance Specialist (MCS-P), a Certified Clinical Chiropractic Assistant (CCCA), and one of a handful of Certified Chiropractic Professional Coders (CCPCs).

Kathy's topic will be Documentation and Record Keeping.

 

Bart Green - DC, MSEd, PhD, DACBSP

Dr. Bart Green has more than 20 years of experience in both private and hospital settings. He is a full-time chiropractor and epidemiologist practicing in an interdisciplinary corporate wellness center, which serves a large corporation in San Diego. He has proudly served as a contracted chiropractic physician at Naval Medical Center San Diego in spine, sports and combat casualty care clinics. He uses his training as a sports chiropractor as part of a comprehensive healthcare team to work with and rehabilitate patients and return them to healthy lifestyles. An advocate and teacher of the history of chiropractic for his entire career, he has served in multiple offices for the Association for the History of Chiropractic and taught chiropractic history at chiropractic institutions. He has been published widely in professional journals on clinical, public health, sports and history topics. He is the editor-in-chief for the Journal of Chiropractic Education. He also is the associate editor for National University of Health Sciences’ three journals: The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine, and the Journal of Chiropractic Humanities.

Dr. Green will be speaking on two topics: Chiropractic Sports Care and Research Evidence to Support Spine Care.

 

Jean Lawrence - CN, MH, CFMP, ND, NMD, PhD

Dr. Jean Lawrence is a Certified Nutritionist, Master Herbalist, Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner©, Doctor of Naturopathy, Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, and a PhD in Natural Medicine. She has experience with whole food nutrition, herbal nutrition, saliva testing, functional blood work, and hair analysis. She specializes in endocrine disorders and digestive issues and co-manages patients with several practitioners. Her passion is teaching and training other practitioners. She has a functional medicine practice in Toccoa, Georgia, which she shares with her chiropractor husband, and another one in Athens, Georgia. She often speaks locally to inform the public about making better health decisions. In 2017 she hosted the radio show “To Your Health”, a six month 30-minute program that aired every week to discuss and inform the public about such subjects as digestion, cardiovascular issues, food choices, and much more. She recently co-authored The Journal of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s Disease with Dr. Dale Bredesen.

Dr. Lawrence will be speaking on two topics: Putting the Brakes on Inflammation and The Whole Food Advantage.
